Stair Renovation - DIY Stairs with Overlay System

Stair renovation is made easier with DIY stairs by StareCasing. This stair renovation is an overlay system where there is no need to tear out or cut off existing stairs. These DIY stairs are a solid unfinished white oak riser designed to be layed over the present stair system. There are just 2 parts to this method. Use the riser found here and then remember to order the matching tread in three different nosing styles that fit your style of stair; round, boxed, and 2x. Matching treads are made in the same high quality milled solid hardwood in white oak. Paint or stain to match your home's decor.

This stair renovation is a 3-step process. Measure, cut to size, attach. Most DIY stairs with this overlay system can be finished in 1 day. Use on prefabricated stairs or over closed-end stairs such as worn looking hardwood stairs, low-grade lumber stairs, or carpeted stairs. When using this DIY stairs method on carpeted stairs you will need to remove existing carpet. Make sure to remove any staples, or protruding nails before applying the overlay stair parts. Any bowing or cupping can be easily fixed by filler or sanding.

These DIY stairs come in three standard widths; 36", 42", and 48". Risers can be cut to size if needed. Risers attach by using a polyurethane-based construction adhesive and a caulk gun.
